Update RecTVHD?? Give us Something NEW!!!

muranoone
I am really looking forward to an update to this app.

I constantly get error messages that "rectvhd has stopped working and I will be returned to MediaCenter"

Ive looked at the forum for solution but I cant find any answers.

Give us something NEW!!

Re: Update RecTVHD?? Give us Something NEW!!!

Beaker1024
My ongoing errors are the occasional questions popping up asking if a specific *.wtv file is a regular recording and then has me restart the RecTVHD service.

I have WHS2011 and use the WHS MCE addin that automatically moves the *.wtv files to a share immediately after being recorded.  I've been wondering if this can on occasion trip up the RecTVHD scanning service that IDs recordings.  I know it can have the side effect of sometimes the *.wtv is incorrectly seen at a 1 min recording (only by RecTVHD interface, the recording is fine and correct length).

I've wondered if the recording finding/IDing service from RecTVHD is seeing it on the movedto location before it's completely copied there.  I've edited file durations and clearing it completely from the RecTVHD database and letting it refind it does have it give it the correct duration!!

Oh yah - To stay on topic - I use this program everyday and it's awesome so naturally any updates/bug fixes would be great.  We'd like to see it stay around for a long time!

How often is "constantly" and is it reproducible using certain steps? I've only seen it a handful of times on my stable releases over the years.

From a quick glance those are just errors with the background addin communicating with the main addin. It shouldn't really effect all that much as the service still does the work when the link is down.

Sorry. I honestly don't know. Error messages that actually popup in Media Center are extremely rare (given that I hardly ever hear about them and I almost never see them on my systems). If you find some way to reproduce the error please let me know.

I know things are looking fairly grim for Media Center's future but it would be really great to get one last update to Recorded TV HD. I recently recommended RTVHD to someone but they were immediately put off by the fact that it was last updated in 2013; despite the fact that it still works really well.

I believe some screenshots of a new skin/version were teased some time a go but this never materialised. A new release could include this and perhaps some small, easy to implement fixes and requests to freshen up the add-in.

A few of the small things I have posted about include:

1: Bug: I have noticed that RTVHD adds a red "recording now" dot to shows which are available as early access on-demand downloads prior to the broadcast date. Need to switch it so files of another file format never show up as recording.

2. Bug: If you are watching a show, pause it, then select Add Recording from the RTVHD menu strip it doesn't actually take you into the Add Recording screen. It looks like this is because in this scenario the focus on the standard TV screen is on the Now Playing thumbnail and so the key stroke sequence is slightly different.

3. Request: Delete artwork when movie/series is deleted.

4. Request: Option for Add Recording on the RTVHD home screen. More convenient than returning to the Media Center home screen or delving into the Settings menu.

If we reach December 2015 without an update (i.e. 2 years) would you consider releasing the source code? At least then someone can continue development.

+1

This app can use a little updating, it has some really good potential if the right dev. gets the SDK.

Just my 2 cents.

I really would like the constant message about RTVHD just stopped worked and you are being returned to mediacenter now debugged.

Do you have any audio codecs installed like AC3Filter?

When I had to use these at one point and found that RTVHD would crash frequently.

I have since removed them and find that I now get the not responding thing one or twice a month.

I have just Haaili media splitter installed.

I think it may have had something to do with MB3 "Media Browser 3"

am still trying to pinpoint it

it happens very little at the moment..

Thanks for the help

Re: Update RecTVHD?? Give us Something NEW!!!

I've been getting quite a few more of the "RTVHD has stopped responding" errors recently (approx. 2 or 3 per week).

For me I think it occurs if I happen to be navigating through the poster view screen whilst a new poster is added (because a new recording has started). My guess is that in this scenario the change in the line up breaks the navigation.

I get the same "stopped responding" error if I add a video file to a watched folder whilst RTVHD is open.

Re: Update RecTVHD?? Give us Something NEW!!!

muranoone
Ok so after weeks of trying to get these errors diagnosed and setting up InfiniTV 6 ETH on my home network I was able to narrow down ALL my issues to a HDD with file structure errors.

I have a 1TB Seagate HDD allocated only for TV Recordings, RecTVHD was crashing frequently
"RecordedTVHD has stopped working" error message and I was receiving the message "Subscription Required' for all my channels, slow channel changing etc...

Short story fix ..

Navigate to MediaCenter and change the Rec. TV location to any other location you choose temporarily...

back up your Rec TV and make sure u Watch all your PREMIUM REC TV first before anyone attempts this because you may not be able to watch them once you preform these steps...

Then download the free version from http://www.partitionwizard.com/

Wipe your partition..  I deleted the partition and create a new partition format it w NTFS

wrote 1's & 0's to it, took about an hour to complete...

connect it.. set it up in Media Center as your primary Rec. TV location and remove the temp location.

Now I did this step to reintroduce the HDD's performance to windows 'Performance Profile"

Navigate to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore ...delete everything in this folder!
you will notice in W7 that your score will need to be refreshed in System Properties panel then...

Go to Control panel remove Digital Cable Advisor... REBOOT!

Enter MediaCenter and navigate to Extras Gallery... Install the  Digital Cable Advisor app...
you will notice that it will take some time to perform the test and then it will "Update Settings"

Once your done try and enter your recorded TV folder and play recorded TV show it should start to play incredibly fast and the Rew & FFw & Skip works flawlessly

So technically speaking your Rec TV HDD's need to be SUPER Healthy or everything acts up
Now If this doesn't work then the odds are your driving is failing for one reason or another,
please check all the features of the Mini Partition App to see if anything else can help.

I hope this helps someone because this was very aggravating to say the least!
I wanted to blame the RecTVHD App but it has nothing to do with the app..
all the app wants to do is access your media and the internet to get info on your media
so actually RecTVHD was telling me that my drive was not working properly in its own way.

I am currently Enjoying normal channel changing no "Subscription Required" messages anymore
No "RecTVHD has Stopped Working" messages all my shows rec properly.

Good Luck !

Glad to hear you finally got it sorted. Sounds like you had a bit of a nightmare with it.

I still get the occasional "not responding" error but only as I previously described when a new show/movie has been added whilst RTVHD is open. The telling thing is it doesn't crash until I start to navigate through the titles and so I am sure it is because the navigation sequence has changed since it was opened on that screen.

Definitely a bug. But I am sure it will be fixed in one of our "very frequent" updates.

Re: Update RecTVHD?? Give us Something NEW!!!

muranoone
Trust me its the HDD, if the seek is interrupted for a millisecond u will experience many crashes and errors.

This solution does take some time but I will tell you its worth a try ...

Currently I am streaming and Recording TV on 6 Tuners over Wi-Fi @ 300Mbs N card to 2 Laptops
Error free for 2 weeks straight, not one error or missed RecTV show. And tuning channels have been faster than ever.

both of my laptops had HDD corruption and would cause errors like totally disappearing tuners,

Audio stuttering issues, video stuttering, Wi-Fi driver crashing.. and much more

This procedure has worked for me on a total of 4 PC's.

You can also try a different way with windows built in disk scan if you want to see if it can reduce the errors ...

Reboot OR Close all your apps ..and make sure nothing is recording or scheduled to rec..

Open My Computer in explorer...

Right Click on the RecTV HDD -Select tools tab -Error Checking - Check Now - Check BOTH

Boxes and wait ...It could take hours but Let it finish and do not interrupt it...

You may or may not see any messages once its complete, some computers will show you an error or not.

Once that's done I would recommend customizing your HDD Folders...

Open My Computer in explorer

Right Click on the RecTV HDD select the customize tab and select 'Optimize this folder for"
select  "Videos" from the drop down menu..

See if these steps help with the performance of your PC

My PC is performing great and does not suffer from any of the problems you describe. My Recorded TV storage is a two drive mirror. The hardware RAID controller constantly monitors the health of the drives and verifies the integrity of the data between the two copies.
