Possible issue with extenders (xbox 360)

stixx
All - I am not sure what the bug is exactly, but I have reinstalled "Recorded TV HD" twice and both times it kills my ability to access "Recorded TV" or "Live TV" using an Xbox 360 as an extender. I can access just fine using the native Media Center on my PC; serious issues though with extenders.

Hopefully this issue gets resolved since it does seem to have potential.

Not sure what the problem may be but lets look into it... I'm assuming you disconnected (closed) your Media Center session on your extender.... and then once reconnecting you have the problems.

What exactly is happening?  Does it say it isn't responding or something similar?  If it is doing that could you look in the following place and see if you see any events that seem to be corresponding to Recorded TV HD:

Media Center saves the event entries in the following location:

In the Left Sidebar expand "Applications and Services Logs" -> Media Center

They actually don't show as errors for some reason... they will show as "information"... The source will be "ehExtHost"

So the easiest way to get the correct events would be to reproduce the error and then look at the top of the "Media Center" section under "Applications and Services Logs" in the event viewer.

Thanks.

I had those logs but did not save them. I really don't want to reinstall a third time either :)

The error as I remember stated a critical component of Media Center was not found and to restart the PC. Again this only happened when accessing Recorded or Live TV via Xbox 360

I'm running into an issue on my Xbox extender where after going into recordedtvhd I get errors when trying to perform video tasks. If I try to delete a show, it says logon failure, unknow user or password. When I try to play a show, it says cannot play video, file type not recognized. Everything plays normally on host pc. I'm running the latest beta.

Strange... Are these recordings on the host pc itself or on a network location? I've never seen that error before.

They are on a network share. I supplied the username and password to recordedtvhd and verified that it is listed under the entry within windows services. Everything works perfectly on the host pc. I'm also using recordedtvhd on 2 other pcs without problems.

It seems as though the extender user account doesn't have rights to view that network location. The username/password that you enter for the service is so that it can monitor those paths and that username/password isn't used in the user interface for playing/deleting.

Any chance you can change the share rights on the network locations to be read/write for everyone/anonymous (depending on what type of network share you are using) instead of only allowing certain accounts?

Did you adjust the sharing permissions under the Sharing tab and the security under the Security tab?

When you added the media locations to the Xbox did you use path's that looked like the HTPC's local paths or did you use the shared paths?

If you used the local paths, try using the shared paths.

So nothing that I tried worked but I ended up having to reinstall windows due to a HD crash and some other issues and now everything works. I'm not exactly sure what was causing this issue. Thanks for everyone's input.

It's happenning again. I'm running the newest version of recordedtvhd and haven't changed anything on my HTPC. Anyone with thoughts? Wife is driving me nuts about this.
