Re: Latest Beta Change Log, Download, and Support - Latest 5/8/12
Any luck with some of the meta-data issues? (Even showing the items with no meta-data just by filename in the list of programs like the standard RecordedTV menu does and then giving an option to find meta-data for it would be much better).
Looks awesome! I just registered through Amazon. A couple requests:
1. On the recording pooling, I have a 120G SSD which I do all my recording to. Nightly, I run commercial skip processing and move the shows to my NAS. I also have a 500G iSCSI partition which I use for Amazon and any other systems which don't allow downloads to a network drive. I would like to pool the drives but only switch to the iSCSI drive in the situation where the SSD drive is full. With the current algorithm, it would record to the iSCSI drive first, since it has more free space.
2. Duplicate elimination. I'm currently collecting multiple seasons of a show that's run 7 years and is in syndication on multiple channels. I'm only missing one episode, so I need to continue to record reruns until I finally record the one I'm missing. Althought RTHD makes it quite easy to find them, it would be nice if the software could eliminate the duplicates for me (or somehow prevent recording them in the first place)
3. Movies: My movies aren't in my Recorded TV directories (as I'm sure most people's aren't) so I'm not seeing anything when I go to that screen, but I'm surprised the software just didn't pick up my Movies directory from WMC. Is there something here I'm missing?
Re: Latest Beta Change Log, Download, and Support - Latest 7/21/12
Yes!!! #2 would be HUGE! Both to monitor what's already been recorded for the show and outright prevent recording ones that you already have, AND to keep a log of all episodes recorded for any show that you have set to automatically record, and never record the same episode twice. (should be an option to turn off the last one)
Regarding #1, how about having a Primary Storage Recording Pool and a Secondary Storage Recording Pool? The drives/directories in the Primary pool would be used first, always recording to the HD in the Primary pool with the most space.
Then, when all of the HDs in the Primary Storage Recording Pool are full -- or better yet, reach a set parameter of free space left (e.g. 5% HD free) -- then the Secondary Storage Recording Pool kicks in, recording to the HD in the Secondary pool with the most space until all HDs are full or reach a set parameter of free space left.
If ever a drive in the Primary Storage Recording Pool is no longer full or if it changes to have more free space left than the set parameter, then RTVHD would switch from the Secondary pool back to the Primary pool.
In mpatnode's example, he would add the 120GB SSD to the Primary pool and he would add the 500GB iSCSI partition to the Secondary pool. When all of the HDs in the Primary Pool (120GB SSD) are full or reach the set parameter of free space left, then the Secondary Pool (500GB) gets tapped to do the same thing. Once the Primary (120GB SSD) isn't full or is above the set parameter, then recordings would occur to the Primary pool instead of to the Secondary pool.
And I'm in support of the #2 suggestion as well. It sucks to get a bunch of duplicate recordings when you're after a select few. I see it happen when TV stations slightly tweak the title of the episode, sometimes preceding with "The " and sometimes excluding it.
Looking good! One issue for release : if you go in and search for unidentified items and check off movies it doesn't fill in the name for the file. It also won't find anything for "leathal weapon 3" . Then if you leave the screen and come back movies will still be checked off and you'll get an XML node error instead of the normal auto search by the name.
I installed v1.7.19 on a Win 8 Pro machine that I built. Everything works great except the sorting capability in Recordedtvhd. When I goto sort by date recorded or original date it just sits there spinning for about 3-5 mins and then disappears with no change to the sort order. Any solution or is this a bug in the latest beta version?

I do have RoboForm installed, however I tried doing a "Run as administrator" first and it fixed the issue. Strange! Anyhow, I'm installing Win 8 and WMC on a couple other computers and i'll see if I have the same issue on those computers. May just be a Win8 issue.
